On April 26, 2018, Hayfield’s Girls Soccer Senior Night ended with a bittersweet feeling.Having won 2-1 against West Potomac, the team was filled with both excitement and sorrow since it was their last home game with their seniors. Senior Maeyvn Jones scored both goals, one a penalty shot after the West Po goalie received two red cards and the other a shot on goal within the first half of the game. Awaiting to see what the second half would bring, the crowd was filled with joy and anticipation for our Lady Hawks.

“Scoring the goals felt great, but it wouldn’t have happened without our team effort in the second half,” Jones said. “Overall, it was the most exhilarating game out of the whole season due to all the positive energy as well as having our friends and family there to support us.”

Whether it was parents wearing the players’ jerseys or signs made by fans to support the Hawks, the crowd was united in showing support and giving tribute to the seniors. Through cheers and tears, it was definitely an emotional night for not only the soccer program, but the community as they bid goodbye to the seniors. Although the Lady Hawks still have two more regular season games, both away, and their Gunston District games, it was a monumental game for the team.

“For me, senior night was really sad because being a part of such an amazing program with great coaches and amazing girls for four years you form an attachment to all of them,” senior Maddy Ohm said.

Although it was the last home game for the girls soccer program, their next game will be May 3, 2018 at West Potomac at 7:15 p.m. Come out and support our Lady Hawks as we watch them finish the season strong and dribble us through Districts.
